The biggest cause of giving up is not being able to see a way forward to what you desire. People give up on relationships, careers, health, happiness … all because they can’t see a way forward to the fulfillment of their want.
- “I’ve tried and failed to lose weight. I can’t see a way forward to fitness. So I have to give up and just eat whatever I want.”
- “I’m willing to work on our relationship, but my spouse isn’t. I can’t see a way forward to us being happy together. Therefore I have to give up and withdraw from the relationship.”
- “I can’t see a way forward to a job that I don’t hate. Therefore I have to give up and suffer through every day at a job I hate.”
When we can’t see a way forward, we give up and accept a heartbreaking life. But making big decisions solely based on not being able to see a way forward is a mistake. That’s because not seeing a way forward does not mean that there is not a way forward.
The truth is, if you could see a way forward, you would already have followed up on it. The problem isn’t not seeing a way forward. The problem is the person who is trying to find that way forward. The problem is you.
Einstein famously remarked that we can’t solve a problem with the same level of consciousness that created it. When you can’t see a way forward, it’s a very clear message telling you that it’s time to upgrade your level of consciousness.
Put another way: Not seeing a way forward means it is time for you to transform into the next better version of yourself — the self who can see a way forward. It’s time to stop struggling to find external solutions to make the world, or other people, be the way you want. And it’s time to heal the parts of you that become discouraged when things aren’t going your way.
I know this can be hard to believe, but not being able to see a way forward is actually a good sign. It means you are outside of the ‘box’ of your normal consciousness. It means you have an opportunity to experience an unpredictable and positive transformation.
Not seeing a way forward is the door to the next level of the ‘you’ that God wants you to become. Go through it.
